style, music & soul in a little city called montreal.

featuring: gabriella wilson

GABRIELLA WILSON is an artist and tattooer from montreal! after a year of freelance tattooing, gabby made the switch to studio work, and now resides at montreal’s mandrika tattoo. when you first meet gabby, you’d never guess that her artistic style would be so dark and twisted. once you get to know her, you wonder how you ever thought her style would be anything different. i mean that in the best way possible - gabby’s version of distorted, creepy realism is so bizarrely beautiful that the only way to describe it is sublime. her ability in both tattooing and art is effortlessly flawless, and there is a fire behind it that is truly inspiring. gabby has taken showcasing her art to the next level by using her friends as a canvas. almost every single person in our circle of friends has been inked by her, and i can say with experience that each piece has a uniqueness in both style and quality that make getting tattooed by gabby a really amazing experience. there is so much love in her work - and i’m very stoked to have been able to chat with her about art, tattoos and how it all began for her.

fashion photographer terry richardson

i know i’ve been touching on a lot of serious issues these past posts (interviews excluded) but i just can’t help myself. it’s more important to me to talk about real issues in the real world than just gab on about what i’m wearing, what celebs are wearing or how i’m painting my nails. although…trust me, you’d all totally wanna hear about how i’m painting my nails. on the real though, this post has been something i’ve been considering for a while now and it’s a bit of a touchy subject (pun totally intended!)- it’s been all over the news recently (at least in the fashion world): infamous horndog/pervert fashion photographer terry richardson

featuring: christine noble

CHRISTINE NOBLE is a tattoo artist and all-around badass hailing from my sister city, toronto! i met christine about 5 months ago on a trip to toronto with my boyfriend. she and one of my closest friends and DJ miss esther benoit (aka DJ e.steria) had just started dating, and i was super excited to meet the motorcycle riding, tattoo covered chick that esther had been talking about for weeks. after meeting her, she was quick to join in our group’s social dynamic (which basically consists of making fun of each other, chain smoking, dancing and talking about how in love we all are). i loved her immediately. outgoing, positive and, above all, incredibly kind, christine is not only one of the most talented tattoo artists i’ve had the pleasure of meeting, she is easily the most down-to-earth girl i know. she has a lot to say about life, tattoos, music and what it’s like to be a chick in an industry dominated by men - read all about her manifesto after the jump!

featuring: nolan brown

NOLAN BROWN (formerly known as charlie choke) is a deep-minimal-tech DJ based out of montreal. nolan’s sound is simultaneously deep, dark and funky - hers is the kind of bounce you don’t always know how to handle, the kind of sound that makes you groove no matter what kind of mood you’re in. there’s something incredibly passionate and, moreover, incredibly intelligent about the way that nolan speaks about music, and about life in general, that resonates with me in the best possible way. there’s no sound that quite compares to hers - - at times it vibes slink and sex appeal, while at others it’s pure funk, bursting with as much life and passion as the DJ herself. i’m very, very honoured that miss nolan brown took the time to answer some questions for me! we chat about music, montreal and the progression of her career, exclusively here at littlecity! whoever said good things come in tiny packages was definitely telling the truth.

daddiielovesyummiie asked: If You Where A In The Lime Light & People Looked Up To You & You Got A DUI (for ex) Would You Want People Bashing You Or To Just Move On ?

hi! thanks for reading!

i am definitely not an advocate for driving under the influence. regardless of celebrity or status or success, i feel that everyone, including me, is responsible for their actions. hypothetical me would deserve whatever bashing i got. limelight has nothing to do with it. my opinion would remain the same no matter who the person in question is (even if that person was me). if i was someone people truly looked up to, then my actions would negate any “role model” position i was in.

however…this situation is tricky. according to your question, i didn’t hurt anyone during my joyride on e, so i think retribution for this would probably be short-lived. it’s not realistic to suggest that people would bash me forever and ever. but if they did, of course i’d want them to move on. no one was hurt (mentally, physically, emotionally or otherwise) in this situation and i think that’s what makes the difference.

hope that helps :)

chris brown: “look at me now”

i’m going to try to really hard to ease up on the sarcasm, swearing and general mischievousness with which i handle some (all) of my other posts, as this is a pretty serious topic. last week, the grammys caused a pretty huge scandal when r&b singer/”rapper” (haha) (serious tone) chris brown performed on stage. unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that the scandal here is due to the fact that just 2 short years ago, chris brown was involved in an incident involving then-girlfriend, r&b/pop singer rihanna. and by that i mean, on their way to the grammys, an altercation arose which ended with brown beating and attempting to strangle rihanna. this story made headlines, and rightly so. police reports and photos appeared online shortly after (no doubt you’ve seen the evidence photo of rihanna’s bruised, cut open and bloodied face) - disturbing to say the least. so, my question is, should chris brown have been allowed to perform at the grammys this year? more after the jump.

lana del rey - born to die

when the internet world (read: tumblr and every fashion/music blog on the planet) started blowing up about someone called LANA DEL REY, i was completely dumbfounded. who is this person and why does everyone love her? likewise, LDR started popping up all over tumblr and facebook - people were posting her videos for born to die and video games almost as much as people are posting that fucking video for “somebody i used to know. in any case, i was unimpressed and refused to give in to the obvious trend of LDR. as my good friend arthurscott put it: fake bitch is fake. am i right?! but then a weird thing happened…she appeared on SNL and everyone started hating her. i was intrigued. needless to say, LDR quickly became my guilty pleasure.

potentially world’s most irritating photo ever (from straight.com)

last week i reviewed her album BORN TO DIE for the online newspaper that i write for, timessquare. it was actually kind of a hard review to write, especially because i totally forgot about it until the day it was due. that being said, i was not lost on things to say! i have so many opinions about lana del rey, and to be honest, they change every day. what’s up with that! i’ve never felt this way about an artist before, honestly. i’m very torn between loving her or hating her…or loving to hate her. probably more of the latter. i love judging people. (oh shut up, you know you do too!)

so, without further ado, here is my review of born to die, after the jump!! trust me — this is just the tip of the iceberg people. i suspect we’ll definitely be seeing more of del rey, and in the coming weeks, i’ll definitely have a lot more to say. stay tuuuuned!
